Here is just one of a number of cases to give you a brief impression of how a vertical conveyor operates. The standard case among numerous vertical conveyors now in full operation is that of your pneumatic vertical conveyor.
A pneumatic vertical conveyor has the ability to lift as much as five hundred pounds in weight. This is done at different levels. A pneumatically activated VCR utilizes a pneumatic cable cylinder to lower and raise a powered vertical conveyor lift between different levels. So-called high-end units have the ability to travel at speeds as fast as one hundred and fifty feet per minute (FPM). Also note that an alternative variety of conveyor speeds are being configured, ranging from as slow as 30 FPM to as fast as 90 FPM.
Shock absorbers installed at the top and bottom of the product ensure that transported products are kept safe at every level.
A cantilever design ensures that product movement can occur at a variety of movement configurations. Powered chain link live rollers are being used for the carrying of loads heavier than the aforementioned 500 pounds. Then there are what is known as multi-poly belt conveyors, being widely used for much lighter loads.
All conveyors being prepared for shipment to different destinations around the country are prewired. Devices are tied into a terminal strip within a junction box. Customers that require them, can have full PLC controls installed to their engineering packages. And it is standard practice that all manufactured vertical conveyors either meet or exceed the current ANSI B20.1 safety guidelines.
Safety focused features of the conveyors are that they have product sensing photo-eyes, safety tunnels and entry and exit points and fully guarded or protected frames, among other features (mostly safety focused).
